Monkeypox disaster emergency is declared in New York.

 


NEW YORK: Late on Friday night, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York proclaimed a state of disaster emergency due to the state's rising monkeypox cases.

Hochul stated in a statement, "I am announcing a State Disaster Emergency to boost our robust ongoing efforts to tackle this pandemic.

According to state data, New York has the highest rates of monkeypox transmission in the nation, with 1,383 cases reported as of Friday.

Hochul stated, "More than one in four cases of monkeypox in this country are in New York State, and we need to use every weapon in our toolbox as we respond."

Monkeypox was identified as a "imminent threat to public health" by the New York state commissioner of health the day prior to the announcement.

Canada confirms 803 instances of monkey pox.

As of Sunday, the Public Health Agency of Canada had identified 803 instances of monkeypox across the nation.

According to the health organisation, 367 instances of the confirmed cases are from Ontario, 359 cases are from Quebec, 61 cases are from British Columbia, 13 cases are from Alberta, two cases are from Saskatchewan, and one case is from the Yukon.

According to Theresa Tam, a former chief public health officer of Canada, more than 70,000 doses of the Imvamune vaccine have been distributed, and the government is still actively collaborating with local authorities to handle public health responses.

The current outbreak has been deemed a public health emergency of global concern by the World Health Organization.

The first monkey pox patient to recover in India

The health minister of the southern state of Kerala, Veena George, announced on Saturday that the first case of monkeypox to be discovered in India in more than two weeks has recovered and tested negative.

"All tests came back negative twice. Both the patient's physical and mental health are good. All of the skin pimples have disappeared. The minister was quoted in the media as suggesting that he would be released today.

India has so far reported four instances of monkeypox, with three infections occurring in the state of Kerala and one in the capital city of Delhi.

After arriving from the United Arab Emirates, the first victim, a 35-year-old resident of Kerala's Kollam district, tested positive. He arrived in the state on July 12 and was admitted to the hospital on July 14 due to indications of monkey pox.

The two more monkeypox cases in Kerala state are still being monitored by doctors and are currently in satisfactory health.
